Colorado Folk Arts Council 2006 Dia de los Muertos Workshops Sponsored by Jefferson Foundation, Jeff-Co SCFD and CFAC

Dear Teacher Sponsors and Parents from Pomona, Moore, Weber. Foster, and Russell,

The Colorado Folk Arts Council is pleased to announce that once again we will be working with the area schools on a combined multi-school project for metro-wide Nov. 4 th Day of the Dead celebration at the Pirate Art Gallery in Denver located at 3659 Navajo St. This is Denver's oldest and most respected Day of the Dead celebration. The Denver School of the Arts and others metro schools have participated in this art show for well over two decades.

Dia de los Muertos is a popular holiday celebrated in Mexico and the South Western United States to honor the memory of deceased loved ones. Elaborate altars, offerendas, shrines and colorful displays paying tribute to the dearly departed make this celebration one the best loved and most famous events in Latin American culture. CFAC has strived for ten years to enable Jefferson County students the opportunity to participate in the Colorado Day of the Dead activities.

Renowned Chicano artist and Chicano Humanities and Art Council members will be presenting workshops at the above listed schools to prepare a group altar representing Northern Jefferson County at the Pirate Art Gallery's grand gala scheduled for Nov. 4 th .

Each school will be working with one of these artist on an after school workshop to prepare sugar skulls and offerendas to be displayed at the Pirate Art Gallery art show.
